We will talk about antioxidants, to try to explain what they are and what function they have.

Our cells, every day, have to face external threats, protecting themselves from viruses, bacteria and environmental toxins. Free radicals attack cells and DNA..., should we worry? ... the answer is NO.

For some years now, scientists have believed that long-term free radicals can contribute to aging and the emergence of some diseases, since they alter cell membranes and genetic material (1).

And it is at this point that ANTIOXIDANTS become important, dear reader.

Antioxidants are chemicals that prevent or slow oxidation. They are able to limit or stop the effects caused by free radicals, thus preventing damage to other cells.

Where do we find the antioxidants?

Vitamin A: Milk, butter, eggs.

Vitamin B: Fruits and vegetables in general.

Vitamin E: Almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, spinach, kale.

Beta carotene: Carrots, peppers, pumpkin, mango, papaya, melon, peach, apricot, spinach, chard.

Lutein: Carrots, asparagus, peas, blueberries, pear, orange, apple, avocado.

(If you want to know more about lutein check out our article: https:///

Selenium: Brazil nuts, garlic, eggs, bread, tuna, salmon, pork and lamb, rice, wheat.

So, to "fight" against these free radicals ..., the recipe is very simple: a healthy and varied diet, in addition to resting properly and avoiding stress. Your health, above all.
